Caring for you and your lingerie

Taking Care of your Garments

To keep your lingerie and swimwear looking as beautiful, comfortable and supportive as the day you bought it, we recommend that you hand wash in warm water only with a touch of detergent.

It’ll mean the delicate laces and embroidery will last longer and the Lycra won’t degrade as quickly and weaken the support that the garment offers you.

Taking Care of Your Breasts

In Everyday Life;

Our breasts need lots of care and attention - they contain no muscle and are made up entirely of tissue which is why they are so delicate. Wearing a correct fitting bra can do wonders for your health, including reducing backache, neck and shoulder pain and encouraging good posture. All bras should fit firm, but not too tight - as comfort is just as important as support.

Many factors can affect your bra size including contraception, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and menopause. Over time the breasts can start to droop as a result of aging, rapid weight loss and breast feeding. You can delay this if you choose to wear the right size.

As you can see many factors can change your bust size very easily – which is why we recommend getting fitted at least once every six months.

The most important advice we can give you – is get to know your breasts! We’re sure we don’t need to remind you of the importance of checking your breasts frequently for any irregular findings. Sadly 1 in 10 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime and the quicker it is diagnosed the greater the chance of making a full recovery. The more familiar you are with your breasts the more likely you are to notice any changes.

After Recent Surgery;

At Leia, many of our fitting consultants have been expertly trained in how to fit ladies who have recently had surgery including breast implants, enlargements and reductions. We're also trained for ladies who have had a lumpectomy or mastectomy operation. Please visit to your nearest store and we’ll make sure you leave with something that offers a great fit and does wonders for your confidence.

Prothesis Advice;
When you’re looking for a new bra after mastectomy operation, if you have a prothesis then please bring this with you as it’s best to fit bras to your natural breast size and then fit the prosthesis to match. If you’ve had a double mastectomy, have the bra fitted to your body shape and then add the prosthesis and adjust accordingly.

You should feel comfortable, confident and happy with the bra you are looking to purchase. Make sure the bra feels secure to make sure that your prosthesis remains in place by moving around and raising your arms above your head to check that the bra doesn’t ride up.

Fasten the bra on the loosest hook to start with but making sure that the band width still fits firmly against your rib cage. Day to day wear and washing will weaken the elastic and make it stretch slightly, meaning that you can move along to the next hook as time as goes by.

During Sporting Activities;

If you’re taking part in any physical activities a sports bra is a must! Finding a great sport bra can eliminate bounce, uncomfortable rubbing and irritating straps. A sports bra’s key feature is to prevent damage to your chest ligaments that can be prone to stress during exercise, so choosing the right level of support should be very important.

Due to the advancement in sports bra technology, there are now many bras out there that offer different levels of support and control. Firstly you need to consider the level of support you need. More physical activities would require a high impact sports bra whilst less demanding activities can cope with medium of low impact sports bras.

When shopping for sports bras it is vital you try them on before you purchase. Make sure the bra is firm and comfortable without compressing the bust too much and that you can breathe easily. Lycra sports bras are great for offering elasticity and added adsorption.

An important thing to remember is that we’re all different and want different levels of support, think about how you’ll need to perform and make sure your sports bra allows you to do this to your very best.
